Summer Weed Control

& Other Lawn Maintenance Tips

Lawn looking a little lackluster? Don’t give up on your grass! Even though we’re well into the lazy, hazy days of summer, there’s still weed control and watering to be done to help keep your yard looking its best.

Summer Weed Control

The best form of weed control at any time of the year is proper maintenance. Mow, water, and feed regularly and you’ll have fewer weeds to deal with. If a few do spring up, spot treat with herbicide. Be careful with whatever product you choose. You don’t want to end up killing the rest of your grass.

If weeds have taken over your lawn, there are more widespread weed and feed solutions to help regain your lawn. If left untreated, weeds can choke out healthy grass and steal nutrients needed for the yard to thrive.

Lawn Maintenance Tips

When it comes to proper maintenance, here are some tips to keep in mind:

Keep mower blades clean and sharp. Weed seeds may stick to blades and spread across your lawn. Dull blades break your grass blades, adding to your yard problems. You can also keep the clippings in the grass to act as a natural fertilizer.

Mow high. Tall grass blades help develop deep roots that reach water further underground. It also helps to shade and cool the soil, meaning you don’t have to water as much.

Water your lawn in the morning to help limit evaporation in the summer heat. Watering deeply is better than watering more frequently.

Feeding your lawn in the early summer helps strengthen it, giving it a better chance of withstanding heat and drought conditions. There are many types of fertilizer, including ones that also kill weeds and insects, maximize water intake, and slowly release over time.
